Call Recognition
Every telecommunications company provides a call recognition service that automatically displays the phone number (mobile or fixed digital) of the caller on your phone screen or landline. This means that the number of the incoming call will appear on your phone screen in the same way that your number appears when you call another mobile or landline phone. This allows you to recognize who is calling when your phone rings, unless the caller has not consented to their number being displayed on phone screens, or if they are calling via a network that does not support this specific service.
Call recognition is also necessary when there are calls from people who harass us, commonly known as malicious calls. To identify the perpetrators of such malicious calls, the Authority for Communication Privacy Protection (ΑΔΑΕ) has issued Act No. 2322/2006, which obliges telephone service providers to provide the relevant citizens and authorities with the identity details of these perpetrators without the need to follow the procedure for lifting communication privacy, making it easier to pursue criminal prosecution.
Regarding the ability to recognize calls:
- We can request that our number is not displayed when we make a call.
- Conversely, we can request that we do not receive calls when the calling number is hidden.
- We can also request the temporary removal of the display of the calling number for a limited period to help identify annoying or malicious calls.
